1. The air inside our homes is anywhere from 2 to 5 times more polluted that outdoors.  (The exception being in large cities).  Considering we spend over 90% of our time indoors, this is a major health threat. 2.  Newer construction especially during the time of the energy crisis and on has created air tight homes.  Older houses “breathe” because they are certainly not airtight. The air leaking in helps to bring cleaner air from the outside. e. Combustion Pollutants:  CO:  (carbon monoxide) a clear, odorless gas.   Cause:  headaches, dizziness, nausea, even death.

NO2 (nitrous dioxide) irritates eyes, throat, nose; increased risk of respiratory infection.

Looking out for the health of your family means that you seriously want to limit the sources of indoor air pollution. There is no way to stop all indoor air pollution. You would have to live outside with eat plants, sit on stones and live primitively. No computers, cell phones, microwaves, air conditioning…  There are ways to make your home as healthy as possible. Some are obvious. You may some of these tips repeated for your benefit.  Some of us are slow to learn!

1.  Open the windows and let in some fresh air.

2.  Make sure your HVAC system is cleaned and has a high quality HVAC filter.

3.  Use high quality air purifiers throughout the home to actively clean the air.

4.  Grow house plants. Nature helps to clean the air.  Landscaping, especially trees also help.

5.  Keep the basement dry to avoid mold growth in the basement.  Make sure to use a basement dehumidifier.

6.  Keep your home clutter free.

7.  Use the least amount of cleaning chemicals possible. It is preferable that you go natural such as using products like Borax, Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, Vinegar or commerical products like Vital Oxide.  There are products available
