At least that is in Philipsburg, PA. It has been like an extended winter here as for the sun. StopMoldCold was going to put up a search for the sun as it is drastically needed to kill the bloody mold spore invasion in the air. Folks that are not used to having allergy and asthma symptoms are experiencing them and need to take action. And yes, there is a bit of water in my basement again! Waking up to more rain was utterly depressing but the really good news is THE SUN IS COMING! Saturday: Mostly Sunny. Time to make some plans.

Mold Had Been On a Secret Invasion in Your Home

We really need to talk mold now. Your house is under a secret invasion. While you were busy, the rain and humidity took over and mold started growing in your house. Time to make sure you get rid of the nasty bugger, mold . Here’s how. And yes, getting rid of mold is work

  1. Dry. Keep your home dry. Check the basement and dry it out as fast as you can. If you do not own a basement dehumidifier, buy one and turn it on and leave it on. Basements are naturally wet in the humid months and must be kept on the dry side to prevent basement mold and hence mold in the rest of your house.
  2. Ventilate. Keep air flowing throughout your house. Stagnant air aids mold growth.
  3. Clean. Mold grows in dirt. Clean the entire house with a quality HEPA filtration vacuum. Use a mold killing product preferable one that kills mold and that does not add to indoor air pollution. SMC recommends Vital Oxide: http://bit.ly/11wAcZP Be thorough.  Note: Bleach cannot penetrate wood or other porous surfaces to kill mold and kill mold on surfaces that are hard.  It also introduces toxic fumes into the air that harmful to young and old lungs.
  4. Let the sun shine in. Mold cannot grow in sunshine. Take care of any leaks ASAP. Mold can grow within 24 to 48 hours of water intrusion. Check the basement frequently as the home ages leaks naturally occur.

Don’t delay.  Get rid of mold as it will continue to make you have allergy symptoms, make your furniture smell, and over time can do some real damage and get out of control.
