Prevent Mold After Flooding:  There seems to be a gazillion places that mold can hide. When you are on your cleaning mission especially after a catastrophic event like flooding after Super Storm Sandy, going down the list of problem mold areas is an important focus. You must prevent mold by killing mold. You cannot let mold invade your home making it uninhabitable, with an overwhelming stench that you know deep down in that you cannot live in your home anymore.

Hard Items Can Be Cleaned; Non- Porous Items Throw Out

Note that any non-porous hard item can be cleaned. Set is aside to dry until you can get to it. Anything that cannot be dried like carpeting must be pitched. Mold can form from 24 to 48 hours after moisture is introduced. Non-porous items like drywall, processed wood products are what need to be pitched.

What Potential Moldy Items Need to be Thrown Out
